What to Know About Dia De Los Muertos 2016
Unlike Halloween, the annual event celebrates the
dead






Dia De Los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a
three-day celebration at the beginning of November that honors the deceased.
The tradition originates from Mexico, but the holiday is now observed in
Mexican-American communities in the U.S., Spain and some Central and South
American countries.






Here’s what you need to know about it:
When it’s celebrated
The official dates are Nov.1— Dia de los
Angelitos, dedicated to deceased youth—and Nov. 2, Día de los Difuntos, for
adults. Some believe in beginning celebrations on the evening of Oct. 31,
proceeding to the graveyard where it is believed that the souls of young
children rise at midnight.
It’s not Halloween
While death and spirits often inspire fear on
Halloween, Dia De Los Muertoscelebrates and honors the dead instead. The
tradition dates back to the Aztecs,who had a month-long celebration of death in
honor of Mictecacihuatl, the goddess of the underworld. Due to the intervention
of the Catholic, Spanish Conquistadores, the celebration now coincides with All
Saints’ and All Souls’ days.
How it’s celebrated
During Dia De Los Muertos, families visit
cemeteries to hold vigils and bring ofrendas (offerings) to the deceased, such
flowers, candles and food. Parties are often held during the annual event,
which can involve the entire community, and it is thought that spirits will
bless those who honor their dead relatives with good luck, wisdom and
protection.
At home, families create altars and honor the dead
with sweetbreads, the deceased’s favorite food, marigolds (the flower of
death), fresh water, trinkets and sugar skulls—which are inscribed with the
name of a deceased relative and eaten as a reminder of death being a sweet
continuation of the cycle of life. Skulls are commonly associated with the
tradition and are thought to date back to the pre-Hispanic era. Mexican artist
José Guadalupe Posada repurposed the skull in the 20th century, creating the
popular image of a skeleton donning a hat known as Calavera Catrina.
How the tradition is evolving
The celebration is constantly evolving. In some
parts of Mexico, children don costumes— quite like Halloween— for the Mexican
version of trick-or-treating. On Oct. 29, Mexico City held its first Day of the
Dead Parade, which officials say was inspired by the opening scenes of James
Bond film, Spectre.

In Mexico, Day of the Dead meets Halloween


Mexico’s beloved grande dame of
death, a stylishly attired skeleton named La Catrina, her grinning skull topped
with trademark hat, has company in the market stands here: Hollywood
extraterrestrials, Batman and other superheroes, along with sundry witches and
monsters.






“Ratas baratas! Diez pesos!”
announces a vendor holding a bundle of plastic rodents by their long tails,
each selling for 10 pesos, or just over 50 U.S. cents. “Cheap rats!”
In Mexico, customs originating in Europe and the indigenous
world often meld in a surprisingly seamless fashion.
So it is with Halloween, a tradition
born in Europe and transported here from the United States, and Day of the
Dead, a Mexican remembrance of the deceased with pre-Hispanic origins.
The two holidays — Halloween on Oct.  31 and Day of the
Dead two days later — have fused here into a multi-day, sometimes surreal celebration
and a bonanza for pinata and mask makers, costume fabricators and bakers
specializing in sugary offerings for the departed. At the sprawling Sonora
Market here, the final shopping days are frantic.
On Saturday, Mexico City held its first Day of the Dead parade,
a runaway success that saw the route through downtown jammed with more 250,000
people, many in full Halloween mode, decked out in skeleton regalia, their
faces painted like skulls.
The inspiration was pure Hollywood — last year’s James Bond movie,
“Spectre,” featured a stunning opening scene of an imagined Day of the Dead
street festival in Mexico City.  Officials moved to turn fiction into a
marketing jackpot, creating an extravaganza  of stylized death to draw
tourists and showcase the Mexico brand.
Across all social strata, many Mexicans dress up for Halloween,
also known as Noche de Brujas, or Night of the Witches, then prepare altars
known as ofrendas for deceased ancestors and loved ones.


“My mother liked to put up very big ofrendas with
a lot of decoration,” says Alejandro Diaz Fernandez, 46, a school bus
driver who has arrived at Sonora Market’s “auditorium,” a room the size of an
airplane hangar, to load up on chocolate skulls, incense and marigolds. The
orange flowers, known as cempasuchil, are ubiquitous in the run-up
to Day of the Dead.

If you picture social video as a colorful ecosystem full of
emoji and chat bubbles, you really should try to think of it more as a jungle —
a place where the strong eat the weak.
Periscope ate Meerkat.
Instagram’s new video features might be chewing on Snapchat. And Facebook Live
is trying to gobble up everything in sight.
The
latest casualty is
Vine, a six-second video app owned by Twitter. The app spawned some stars,
among them the singer Shawn
Mendes, and improved upon the best thing about Twitter — funny tweets — by
adding audio and visual snippets. Some of it was total nonsense, and that’s why
it was so great.
But with Twitter struggling
to become profitable — and after the news that
the company would cut about 350 jobs, or 9 percent of its work force — Vine said
in a Medium post on Thursday that it would close down in the coming
months.
What went wrong?
One theory: Instagram ate it.
Here’s what Mike Isaac, a tech reporter for The New York
Times, said in an interview on Thursday about Vine: “I was told many times by
people inside of Twitter that Vine never recovered from Instagram’s video
launch a few years back. That threat of stealing users and market share was
real, and it worked.”
In May, the media website
Digiday reported that many of Vine’s biggest stars had jumped ship,
leaving for more profitable pastures, like YouTube and Facebook.
“Facebook and YouTube have much larger scale than Vine, so
you can reach more people and make the most money there,” Esa Fung, a popular
Vine user, told Digiday.
Another theory from our tech reporter: Vine was dead weight.
“If you have an entire division of your company that doesn’t
make money and is a real resource drain, that’s hard to justify keeping it up
and running,” Mr. Isaac said.
Why did people love Vine?
I can’t tell you; I’ll have to show you. Just know this:
Vines turned nonsense into short bursts of hilarious art.
Vine also had real utility for sports fans, who used it to
replay memorable moments from the arena and the field over and over again.
Vines captured by basketball fans are
particularly popular, but memorable
memes in all sports were hatched.
On Thursday, DeRay Mckesson, a civil rights activist, was
one of several people who pointed out that Vine gave protesters in Ferguson,
Mo., a way to broadcast what was happening in the months following
the shooting deathof Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old black teenager,
by a white police officer.
The footage captured moments of heightened tension between
protesters and the police.
“I’ll always love Vine because that was all we really had in
protest in the Fall 2014,” Mr. Mckesson tweeted. “There
was no Twitter video and no Periscope back then.”
Tracy Clayton, who hosts the “Another Round” podcast at
BuzzFeed, wrote in a series of tweets that Vine had given young minority
performers a platform to express themselves and a way to grow a following
outside the confines of conventional media.
“People love black culture, but they don’t like to pay black
people for it. (Hi, appropriation). Vine wasn’t perfect, but it was a way to
try and get around it,” Ms. Clayton wrote on
Twitter.
So what happens to all those Vine videos?
Vine said that it would figure out ways for users to keep
and store their favorite pieces of six-second art.
“We value you, your Vines, and are going to do this the
right way,” the company wrote on Medium. “You’ll be able to access and download
your Vines.”

A dominant start by Corey Kluber led the way to a 6-0 Indians win in Game 1 of the World Series. They dominated every aspect of the game, but somehow they remain underdogs to win the series, coming in at -105 with the Cubs a slight favorite at -115. Leading up to Game 1, we hammered home
the fact that the Game 1 winner has gone on to win nine of the last 10 World Series, and going back even further, 17 of the last 19. This fact alone makes the Indians an absolute bargain. The time is now to place a bet on them.





The Indians were also underdogs in their two previous series vs the Red Sox and Blue Jays, but hey’ve now won eight of their nine games and have racked up four shutouts in the playoffs so far. They closed as an underdog in six of those nine games and sportsbooks appear to have not learned their lesson yet as they opened at +142 for Wednesday’s Game 2.

Shortly after defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6 of the NLCS, the Chicago Cubs opened as -185 favorites over the Cleveland Indians in the 2016 World Series. The Cubs opened the season as +500 favorites to win the World Series while the Indians were further down the board at +1800. The
teams last played in 2015 when they split four games.


The Cubs have looked shaky at times throughout the playoffs as they were shut out twice in the NLCS despite leading the postseason with 48 runs scored. They've also allowed 30 earned runs in the layoffs, which is second only to the Dodgers. Still though, this club is absolutely stacked and based on its track record this season, these odds are fair.


Cleveland has lost just one game during the playoffs as the Indians have been able to lean on their bullpen to lock down tight ball games. The Tribe have allowed just 14 earned runs this postseason, which is especially impressive with their eight games coming against the hard-hitting Red Sox and Blue Jays. Game 1 takes place Tuesday night in Cleveland.

The Chicago Cubs still need to win one more game against the Dodgers in the NLCS and they still need to face Clayton Kershaw, but they’re already favored over the AL champion Indians to win the 2016 World Series. Chicago’s time out of the top spot on the World Series futures oddsboard lasted about a day as they’re now back in familiar territory after two straight wins over the Dodgers. The Cubs’ odds sit at -130, with the Indians at +160.


With the Cubs yet to clinch the NLCS, they’ll likely become even bigger favorites if they get by the Dodgers, which means you should wait if you plan on betting on the Indians. With Chicago potentially becoming an even bigger favorite, Cleveland would become an even bigger underdog. It’s all about value, so be patient. Or, if you plan on betting on the Cubs, get on them now, because any value on them is about to shrink up.


The Cubs’ bats have finally woken up as they’ve combined to score 18 runs over the past two games in LA. They’ll return to Wrigley Field with two chances to put the Dodgers away. If they can’t get by Kershaw in Game 6, it’ll be up to Jake Arrieta in Game 7 to push them into their first World Series appearance since 1945.


The Cleveland Indians will make up one half of this year’s World Series lineup after their bullpen manhandled the Toronto Blue Jays for five games. The Indians will play in their first World Series since 1997 and are looking for their first World Series victory since 1948. Clinching the AL pennant pushed their World Series odds to +140. They’ll have home-field advantage and having a few extra days off should be beneficial to their stretched-out pitching staff.


Over in the NL, the Dodgers’ time at the top of the World Series futures oddsboard was short-lived after the Cubs locked the series up at two games apiece. The Dodgers now have the longest odds of the three remaining teams at +325. Baseball fans will be interested to know that 10 of the last 14
Game 5 winners in the NLCS went on to win the series.

When it comes to Gilmore Girls, it seems the entire world is tuned in—well, except for this writer.

As a generation of fans sat glued to the franchise's newly released A Day in the Life Netflix trailer Tuesday, a far smaller margin remained clueless to the bond between Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, myself included.

For the select few who are unfamiliar with the inner workings of Stars Hollow, the revival's trailer unfolded like an exciting punch line without hearing the joke.

Thanks to the handy series description, we do know that both main women are at a "crossroads." For Rory, that means a journalism career at a standstill. For Lorelai, that means trouble in paradise for her and a guy named Luke. For Grandma Emily, that means the death of her husband and resuming life as a single woman.

As Gilmore Girls newcomers anxiously fire up episode one and try to catch up before the November release, here are a few questions to answer in the process.

Pete Burns, lead singer of the Eighties goth new wave band Dead or Alive and their smash "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)," died Sunday after suffering cardiac arrest, his management said Monday. Burns was 57.


"It is with the greatest sadness that we have to break the tragic news that out beloved Pete Burns of (Dead Or Alive), died suddenly yesterday of a massive cardiac arrest," Burns' Facebook alerted fans.
"All of his family and friends are devastated by the loss of our special star," the message read. "He was a true visionary, a beautiful talented soul, and he will be missed by all who loved and appreciated everything he was and all of the wonderful memories the has left is with."

Boy George, who weathered comparisons both musically and stylistically to urns, tweeted of
the Dead or Alive singer, "Tearful about the passing of @PeteBurnsICON he was one of our great true eccentrics and such a big part of my life! Wow. Hard to believe!"

The androgynous Burns, who began cross-dressing as a six-year-old, emerged in the late Seventies as a member of the goth band Nightmares in Wax, which released their lone EP Birth of a Nation, highlighted by the single "Black Leather," in 1979 before adopting the name Dead or Alive.
After a string of singles, including "The Stranger,"
Dead or Alive released their debut album Sophisticated Boom Boom in 1984, with the band transforming KC and the Sunshine Band's "That's the Way (I Like It)" into an unlikely hit.
"The trouble is that people are all too ready to jump to conclusions about anybody who they think looks a bit strange. They think you must be mentally subnormal," Burns once said of his unique appearance in aninterview. "Over the years I've had to learn how to deal with eople who refuse to take me seriously. That's where I learnt the blunt side of my character."

The following year, Youthquake arrived accompanied by the group's biggest hit "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)." The single reached Number One on the U.K charts and peaked at Number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2006, the song returned to the British charts – at Number Five – following Burns' infamous appearance on CelebrityBig Brother.
Three years later, Flo Rida and Kesha's take on the song, dubbed "Right Round," topped the Billboard 200 and shatteredthen-digital sales records.
The singer also recorded notable Dead or Alive hits with "Brand New Lover" and Something in the House."
Following the Eighties, however, Burns became more known for his reality TV appearances and ever-changing look – Burns underwent countless cosmetic surgeries over the past ecades, with heavy physicalconsequences– than his music.


"People redecorate their homes every few years and I see this as no different. Changing my face is like buying a new sofa," Burns toldthe Daily Mail after another string of surgeries left him virtually unrecognizable.
As Dead or Alive's only constant member, Burns continued to tour under the group's oniker until his death.

The doodle represents the "little
animals" Leeuwenhoek discovered that later became known as bacteria
Monday marks the 384th birthday of Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, credited with being the first microbiologist.
While he might not be a household name today, the Dutch textile salesman ground and polished his own lenses, and was the first human to discover the existence of bacteria, single celled creatures, and spermatozoa.
Working from his dwellings above a marketplace in the Dutch city of Delft, his home-made lenses were so finely constructed that some of the organisms he discovered were not seen again for another century.
Doodle designer Gerben Steenks says, “I chose to make it an animated Doodle to show the ‘before and after’ experience that Antoni van Leeuwenhoek had — looking through a microscope and seeing a surprising new world.”
Van Leeuwenhoek wrote in a letter to the Royal Society of London that he had seen “little animals” in lake water he had collected for his first microscopic experiment. “He saw a whole world in a drop of water,” writes Google.

Speaking on a Spanish-language radio program in the US, the Mexican-American actress revealed that she refused to go on a date with Trump years ago when she had a boyfriend, but he continued to pursue her – and claimed he even planted a story with celebrity gossip magazine National Enquirer.



"When I told him I wouldn't go out with him even if I didn't have a boyfriend, [which he took as disrespectful], he called – well, he wouldn't say he called, but someone told the National Enquirer," she said.



Hayek claims Trump leaked a false story to the magazine, suggesting it was he who refused to date her because she was "too short".



"Later, he called and left me a message: 'Can you believe this? Who would say this? I don't want people to think this about you'," Hayek told the radio station.



"He thought that I would try to go out with him so people wouldn't think that's why he wouldn't go out with me."



Hayek, who is a campaign surrogate for Hillary Clinton, said she believes the other women who have spoken out about their experiences of harassment and assault at the hands of the Republican candidate.



Her revelation comes as Trump vows to sue every woman who has gone public with a claim of sexual misconduct against him.

"All of these liars will be sued after the election is over," he said during a speech at Gettysburg.



But so far his threats have not deterred accusers. The New York Timespublished its smackdown response to a threat from Trump's lawyers in the wake of an accusation of groping the paper published.



"If he believes that American citizens had no right to hear what these women had to say and that the law of this country forces us and those who would criticise him to stand silent or be punished, we welcome the opportunity to have a court set him straight," the letter read.

Kyle Schwarber rejoining Cubs for World Series a
real possibility


 In the Cubs'
season of historical significance, Kyle Schwarber is on the verge of
reaching a significant medical milestone.






Schwarber, 23, was cleared to play Saturday night for the
Mesa Solar Sox of the Arizona Fall League — six months after undergoing surgery
to repair two ligament tears on his left knee. It's now possible he could join
the Cubs if they reach the World Series for the first time since 1945.

"We're not ruling anything in," President Theo Epstein said. "We're not
ruling anything out. We're not getting ahead of ourselves here. We have a lot
of work to do before he becomes pertinent on a short-term basis. But it's a
testament to how hard Kyle has worked to be in this position to how it's a
possibility. It's a credit to him and all the members of our staff who have
worked with him."

Schwarber, who hit 16 home runs in 69 games for the Cubs
during the regular season and five during the 2015 playoffs, will handle the
designated-hitter duties for Mesa — a job he could perform at Cleveland if he's
cleared to play and the Cubs advance to the Series.

Schwarber will wear a brace on his knee and won't play in
the field. He has been told to run the bases conservatively.

"It's awesome," manager Joe Maddon said. "I
didn't see it coming."

Neither did anyone but Schwarber, who wasn't expected to be
cleared fully until the start of spring training after
suffering the injury April 7. But Schwarber showed remarkable improvement in
agility drills over the last 1 1/2 months after progressing from range of
motion and strengthening work.

Schwarber received clearance Monday to hit and run after a
six-month post-operation examination from Dr. Daniel Cooper, who performed the
surgery. Epstein was informed of the updates before Schwarber flew to Los
Angeles, where he hit Monday and Tuesday in the batting cage before flying to
Mesa on Wednesday for a recovery day and tracked pitches off a machine.
Schwarber took batting practice on the field for the first
time on Thursday and tracked about 400 to 500 fastball and breaking pitches off
a machine.

Schwarber looked impressive Friday in eight at-bats off
Double-A Tennessee pitcher James Farris, and then got clearance from Cooper to
play in the AFL, Epstein said.

"Physically, he's on an accelerated time table,"
said Epstein, who said he didn't prod medical authorities to clear Schwarber.
"To a baseball standpoint, he's only got about a week or so to be ready,
but mentally he's been preparing for six months and has been advance scouting.

"He's been watching how pitchers attack hitters,
studying his own video, studying opposing video. Mentally he's been preparing
for a long time and been itching to contribute."

Kevin Sumlin and Texas A&M have celebrated a colossal win and endured a humiliating loss at Alabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium.


Now, they're back.

The sixth-ranked Aggies return Saturday to face No. 1 Alabama in a matchup of the Southeastern Conference's last unbeaten teams and a game that's every bit as important as any previous meeting.

It's even more intriguing with the Crimson Tide (7-0, 4-0) having edged closer to the Texas A&M style of speedy tempo and quarterback runs. The Aggies (6-0, 4-0) haven't abandoned that formula by any stretch but have taken over the role of the SEC's top running team that would seem more 'Bama's domain traditionally.

No wonder Tide coach Nick Saban said, "We're full of challenges for this week."
"This is one of those season-defining games for us," Saban said.

For both teams. It's the second time in four seasons that the SEC West showdown has featured No. 1 versus No. 6 and the third Top 10 matchup in that span. The budding rivalry has produced classics like the Johnny Manziel-led 2012 upset by the Aggies in Tuscaloosa and 'Bama's 49-42 win a year later. It's also supplied Alabama's biggest beatdown against a ranked team, a 59-0 win on the Aggies' last visit two seasons ago.

Such a one-sided outcome seems unlikely this time but Alabama is a whopping 18-point favorite coming off dominating performances against Tennessee and Arkansas.

Texas A&M quarterback Trevor Knight, who led Oklahoma to a Sugar Bowl win over Alabama as a redshirt freshman, said the Aggies have this game in its proper perspective.
"We're not over-emphasizing this week and that's not discrediting Alabama and what they've done," he said. "But this isn't the end all, be all. This is the seventh game of our season. We still have a bunch of games after that and we realize and respect the opponent that we're playing but we're not making it on a pedestal or anything like that."

Here are things to watch in Saturday's Texas A&M-Alabama game:

TOP 10 LIST: Alabama has grown accustomed to playing much-hyped games, going 23-6 against Top 10 teams since 2008. The Aggies have fared pretty well, too. They've won a school-record three road games against Top 10 teams under Sumlin, including that 29-24 win in 2012 that was the program's second win over a top-ranked team.

RUNNING QBS: Both defenses will have to be wary of quarterback runs. Tide freshman Jalen Hurts and Knight rank second on their respective teams in rushing, but nobody comes close in reaching the end zone on the ground. Knight has run for nine touchdowns and 502 yards, Hurts has produced 428 yards and eight TDs.

NON-OFFENSIVE TDS: Alabama's special teams and defense are on a roll when it comes to scoring, accounting for 11 touchdowns this season and at least one in nine straight games. It would be hard to top the last meeting with the Aggies, when the Tide scored on three interception returns . Sumlin cites a number of factors, luck not being among them.
"A lot of them are two-way players in high school and frustrated they only get to play defense," he said. "They are letting the world know about it."

PASS RUSHERS GALORE: The game features some of college football's premier quarterback chasers. Texas A&Mhas bookends Myles Garrett and Daeshon Hall and ranks third in the nation in tackles for loss (9.7 per game). Alabama counters with Jonathan Allen, Tim Williams and Ryan Anderson. All five players rank among the Top 86 in sacks.

"Their front is ridiculous, best way I can put it," Sumlin said. "As good as there is in football."

the cyborg Reavers. Audiences will find out whether Laura is indeed X-23—a
clone of Wolverine—on March 3, 2017.

NFL has not ruled out putting Josh Brown on commissioner's
exempt list


The NFL said on Thursday it plans to review the new
information disclosed on Wednesday about the Josh Brown domestic violence case
and decide any “next steps” it might take.






The league is considering the possibility of placing Brown
on the commissioner’s exempt list (i.e. paid leave) while it considers
discipline, a person with knowledge of the situation told Tom Pelisero of USA
TODAY Sports, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of
the situation.

That was the mechanism the NFL used – with players’ consent
at the time, prior to the implementation of the league’s updated personal
conduct policy – to take Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and
then-Carolina Panthers end Greg Hardy off the field amidst their legal troubles
during the 2014 season.

The current conduct policy says paid leave is an option for
anyone charged with a crime of violence or if an investigation “leads the
Commissioner to believe that you have violated this policy” by committing such
conduct.

On Thursday, the league released the following statement
from Brian McCarthy, VP of Communications:

“NFL investigators made repeated attempts—both orally and in
writing—to obtain any and all evidence and relevant information in this case
from the King County Sheriff’s Office. Each of those requests was denied and
the Sheriff’s Office declined to provide any of the requested information,
which ultimately limited our ability to fully investigate this matter. We
concluded our own investigation, more than a year after the initial incident,
based on the facts and evidence available to us at the time and after making
exhaustive attempts to obtain information in a timely fashion. It is unfortunate
that we did not have the benefit or knowledge of these materials at the time.

“In light of the release of these documents yesterday, we
will thoroughly review the additional information and determine next steps in
the context of the NFL Personal Conduct Policy. We will not be making any
comments on potential discipline until that time. “

Documents obtained by USA TODAY Sports show the NFL filed a
public record request with King County in May 2015.

Brown said he had "been physically, emotionally and
verbally" abusive, according to documents related to Brown’s domestic
violence case obtained by USA TODAY Sports and other media outlets on
Wednesday.

The confessions came from Brown’s journals and emails that
were given to Kings County (Wash.) Sheriff's Office investigators by his
then-wife, Molly Brown, after Brown was arrested in May 2015.

The  misdemeanor
domestic violence charge was dropped within days of his arrest in Woodinville,
Wash., after prosecutors reviewed the case. The NFL, which said it lacked the
cooperation of Molly Brown, suspended Josh Brown for the first game of the
season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

Brown told reporters in August that the incident was a
single "moment in time," but the documents show that may not be the
case.

"I have been a horrible husband and stepfather,"
Brown wrote in one of his journal entries.

"I have abused my wife," read another entry with
the words underlined and circled.

Katie May had the online world at her feet. The 34-year-old
Playboy model was a queen of Snapchat and had more than 2 million followers on
Instagram.


But her life ended in February days after a visit with her
chiropractor.



Katie May's father, Joe May, spoke with Eyewitness News over the phone from
Pittsburgh on Wednesday. He said the Los Angeles County coroner attributed his
daughter's death to the actions of the chiropractor.



The coroner's office said the official cause of death was vertebral artery
dissection, which is essentially the manipulation of the neck. It tore an
artery leading to the brain.



The California Board of the Chiropractic Examiners said it doesn't comment on
whether or not it receives a complaint against one of its members.



Most of the time when a person suffers an injury like May's, it's due to a
pre-existing condition that makes a patient more vulnerable, according to
family medicine specialist Dr. Manuel Momjian.



"I don't think it should bring down the chiropractic industry, but it
should make us all step back and ask questions to our doctors," he said.



May's father said her death leaves her 7-year-old daughter motherless. He wants
to make sure something similar does not happen to anyone else.



"That's what we want. I would tell any guy or girl who goes to a doctor -
and I've told them - don't touch my neck."

Dylan Rieder, a renowned professional skateboarder and model, has died. He was 28. As Transworld Skateboarding posted, he died on Wednesday due to complications from leukemia.








Known for his effortless and graceful style, strength and memorable video appearances, Rieder influenced a generation of skateboarders.

Rieder, who grew up in Westminster, California, began skating before he reached his teens. By the time he turned 18 he went pro for Alien Workshop. He was a favorite son in the industry.



There are myriad excellent representations of his skills, including his breakout part in 2006's Transworld Skateboarding's A Time to Shine. He also teamed with Alien Workshop for a part in 2009's Mind Field and in 2010 he starred in a solo part for Gravis Footwear, entitled Dylan. Last year he won Transworld Skateboarding's award for Best Part in Supreme's "cherry."



His talents went beyond his skateboarding chops. He was also a model. In 2014, he starred in DKNY's ad campaign, which also featured A$AP Rocky, Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn.
Many have showed an outpouring of remembrances on social media. "Dylan Rieder. One of the most talented and brave men," Ozzy Osbourne tweeted, along with a picture of the two of them together. "I feel blessed to have known you. Rest in peace Dylan. My love and condolences to his family."
